The Story of Sumoto Chapel
Pastor Jim Snipe
During the first few days of January 1999, my wife was praying for God`s leading for the New Year. She began to receive visions of Awaji Island and was impressed that we should pray at four points on the island (North, South, East and West). On Feb 11th we went to Awaji Island for the first time with our pastors, Yasuhiko and Yumiko Aoki, and four others to pray for the island. Just before leaving the island we prayed under the south end of the Pearl Bridge (Akashi Kaikyo Ohashi).
I prayed we would possess the land. We then wondered what God wanted us to do concerning Awaji Island. The answer came the next morning when my wife received God`s call in a vision for us to go to Awaji Island.
She saw big waves coming against the island and the people calling out, "Won`t you please come and help us?" The call was very similar to the Apostle Paul`s call to go to Macedonia (Acts 16:9), except the vision came in the day time rather than at night. During lunch we discussed the call with our pastors. We all agreed that my wife and I should move to Awaji Island as soon as possible.
About 6 weeks later we moved to Sumoto City on Awaji Island. Sumoto Chapel was started in a rented house in Sumoto on Sunday, April 4, 1999.
